Why do you need to join TT-ASP?
Why... because you are student pharmacists and this is your student
academy. The American Pharmacists Association is the oldest and largest
professional pharmacy organization in the country and it represents every
area of pharmacy practice. Furthermore, the Academy of Student
Pharmacists is APhA's largest academy, meaning that as students we have
an incredible opportunity to help shape the future of the pharmacy
profession through APhA.
Being affiliated and active with at least one professional pharmacy
organization will be an important part of your professional development
from now on. By joining the Texas Tech Academy of Student Pharmacists (TT-ASP)
you become a member of two professional pharmacy organizations, the
American Pharmacists Association and the Texas Pharmacy Association.
We encourage you to join other professional organizations as your
interests in specific areas of pharmacy practice become more clear in the
coming years... but all of you should be members of APhA.
Does it cost a lot of money?
Dues are paid each year in the fall of your P1-P3 year and
are paid again in the
spring before your P4 year (P4 dues are paid early so that they can be
enrolled in $1M liability coverage prior to 4th year clerkships). The dues are $68 per year and that covers 12
months of membership from November 1 thru October 31 and gets you all of the benefits listed below. For
many students the discounts received on pharmacy textbooks and references
purchased through a TT-ASP chapter book sale or pharmacist.com actually
pays for membership. For P4 members, liability insurance and the
NAPLEX review book mailed in January more than covers the expense of
membership.
