Journal Club Mission Statement

It became a custom to view the GSBS Journal Club (J-Club) as an extracurricular workshop for practicing of the lab research topics presentation. Generally speaking the philosophy of the Journal Club is centered on the team discussion of recent advancements in a specific research field. Interdepartmental format of J-Club implies focus on interdisciplinary topics.

How much of the invested time and effort contributes to the educational fulfillment of the GSBS standards of excellence? Obviously, quality of education and research progress are integrally related with each other. They say practice makes perfect. Expanding the scope of perfection and applying the same effort towards the more diverse audience carry significant progressive potential. Interdepartmental orientation is the competitive edge of the J-Club.

Professional advancement in biomedical research is not limited within the established boundaries of classic fields. A great majority of sound discoveries have been done on the multidisciplinary ground. Cutting edge research gives the opportunity either to take over the intimidating limitations in methodology or to invade entirely new conceptual frontiers. J-Club has this potential – we all have something to share. Those who need financial support for participation in national symposiums would only benefit from the multidisciplinary projection of their research topic.

They say time is money. There is no need to divert from the established course. However, the slight shift of the focus from the lab research topics towards cutting edge discoveries in the field related to the lab research topics, along with the propensity towards interdisciplinary research collaborations, would benefit the betterment of the student body and the image of the Health Sciences Center.
