Mission
The Alpha Eta Honor Society’s purpose is the promotion of scholarship and fellowship with other allied health professionals and to recognize high achievement in and significant contributions to the allied health professions.
History
The The Alpha Eta society was chartered in Florida in 1975 as the national scholastics honor society for the allied health professions.
Alpha Eta has been an organization at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center for 12 years. As the school of Allied Health has grown, so has Alpha Eta. In 1991, there were 15 members from three departments. Now there are approximately 70 members from ten departments, which include: Athletic Training, Audiology, Clinical Laboratory Science, Molecular Pathology, Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, Physician Assistant Program, Rehab Counseling, Speech-Language and Hearing Sciences, and Speech-Language Pathology.
Induction
Student inductees are selected by their professors who are members of Alpha Eta on the basis of scholarship, leadership, and achievement.
Faculty inductees are selected by their colleagues who are members of Alpha Eta based on distinguished scholarship, leadership and service to Allied Health Education.
Nominations are taken in the spring with the Induction Ceremony being held the first week of September.
Motto
The motto of The Alpha Eta Society is "Together We Serve."
