The Military Medical Student
Association is comprised of current and former members of the
military medical community at TTUHSC/UMC and staffed by students.
It
was revived for several reasons:
First, to provide a central location of information for
contracted students and those interested in the military and/or
thinking of joining. Hopefully, this will minimize
frustrations and help answer questions such as HPSP procedures, OBC
information/insights, objective program information to equip
students before they initiate contact with a recruiter, and current
news within the military community. The ultimate goal is to
educate students about the multitude of opportunities available to
them within the military medical community and prepare them for
their future roles as military doctors. Use the links to the
right for this branch specific information.
Second, to sustain the actions of a core group of students
that remain active on the TTUHSC campus. This group is open to
all students regardless of military affiliation. Our
activities include but are not limited to regular morning physical
training, community service projects, small group informational
dinners hosted by current and former military healthcare workers,
fun events (such as paintballing, shooting range, obstacle course)
just to name a few. So if you are interested in having fun,
getting into shape, and serving the local community, join us at our
next activity! Use the links to the left for organizational
information.
Third, to meet the needs of TTUHSC medical students as
opportunities arise. We pride ourselves on efficiently
'getting things done'. For example, we are currently working
with Student Affairs on making the NBME subjects exams that are not
taken within Blocks available to provide students additional
feedback and preparation for Step 1. We are arranging to put a
microwave for student use in the library. Also, we hope to add
a pull-up bar to the Synergistic Center exercise room and hope to
better organize and add to its equipment.
